Having the right balance of minerals in both our soils and in our vines is the cornerstone to our winery management. In turn, the soil itself becomes biologically active in ways that cannot be achieved with conventional farming. This complexity is what makes our wines so textured and refined. Complexity begets complexity.
WaterFire Vineyards is now the FIRST vineyard in Michigan to be Certified Sustainable! What does this mean? It's a huge achievement. SIP Certified is a step above organic. Not only do we follow organic and biological growing practices, but we adhere to a suite of additional requirements that include water conservation, energy efficiency, air quality, fruit quality, social responsibility, community relations and more…CLICK HERE to see an an infographic that compares the 2 programs.
THE PROOF IS IN THE FROGS
Amphibians are very sensitive to chemical pollutants. Outdoors, beyond our tasting room, the presence of frogs throughout our vineyards is one of the best indicators of our commitment to organic farming without toxins.
